We have a strong heart and passion for supporting local schools and charities.
We are committed to meeting the needs of school children and the organizations that support them. Our employees dedicate their time and energy throughout the year to mentor local school children, help with school supply and food drives, and support various other organizations that give back to the community.
We partner with the Springfield Public School District 186 throughout the year on various causes.
- We adopted Harvard Park Elementary School and Wanless Elementary School and make monetary donations annually so the schools can purchase books and other needed materials. Employees of Horace Mann also mentor students in those schools during their lunch breaks or after school.
- We support the annual “Stuff the Bus” program. We donate school supplies at the beginning of each academic year to District 186 students who need help the most.
- Every year around Christmas, we adopt a local school through the “Horace Mann Giving Tree” program and buy gifts for each student in the school.
- We support the Educator of the Year Award each year, an award given to the “best of the best” in District 186.
At Horace Mann, we believe that supporting local charities benefits everyone in the community, especially children. We are one of the top contributors to the annual United Way campaigns and have received several Corporate Gold Awards for our continued support to the organization that serves 32 agencies around central Illinois.
We also hold the Horace Mann Charity Golf Classic each year to raise money for local charities, including the Central Illinois Food Bank, American Red Cross and Springfield Public Schools Foundation. The event has raised more than $165,000 in the last five years.
Along with businesses from around the community, we compete to donate the most food in the annual Corporate Food Fight. All of the food is donated to the Central Illinois Food Bank.
Many of our employees also hold positions on the Board of Directors for various not-for-profit organizations, assist local food banks and shelters, build homes for Habitat for Humanity and read to students in schools.
