Horace Mann helps you double your impact in Moore, Oklahoma
MOORE, Okla. (Sept. 16, 2013) – Moore, Okla. teachers and students are back in the classroom, but recovery is still a challenge after May’s F5 tornado damaged Plaza Towers Elementary, Briarwood Elementary and Highland East Junior High. Horace Mann wants to help Moore teachers continue to re-establish their classrooms, donating $25,000 for a Double Your Impact Campaign with DonorsChoose.org.
Starting Sept. 16th, once a Moore School District project with the Horace Mann Double Your Impact logo hits the halfway mark in funding, Horace Mann will donate the other half. Donors should act quickly because once the grant funding runs out, the Double Your Impact logo will disappear from projects, and they will return to their original funding amount. Moore teachers have more than $200,000 in projects posted on DonorsChoose.org. Citizen donors and corporations have already supported teachers in Moore by funding over $800,000 in projects.
“We’ve already seen Moore teachers benefiting from our partnership with DonorsChoose.org. We helped train them this summer on how to put a project up. Now we are helping get some of those projects funded, along with the generosity of many, not just in Moore but across the country,” says Horace Mann Agent Dusty Treat. “Some of these teachers lost years of supplies, decorations and tools they used to help students learn. This is one way we can help them get their classrooms close to the way they were before the tornado."
In one project posted on DonorsChoose.org, Tabitha Baughman, a special education teacher at Plaza Towers Elementary, describes how getting these projects funded will help her students as they begin their school year in a temporary setting. “Your donation to this project will help my students feel secure again at school. They will have a familiar environment filled with the things they loved to do. By introducing my students to their new, temporary setting filled with familiar things, they can experience a great year and know they are loved and safe."
Horace Mann, Founded by Educators for Educators, has donated more than $2 million dollars to DonorsChoose.org since its partnership began in 2011.
